You will have two unique, secure identifiers which you will be prompted to enter each time you log in to WebTycho.
- User Name. Typically, this is the first initial of your first name followed by your whole last name, without spaces, all lowercase (e.g., jsmith). If that user name is already in use, your user name will end with a numeral (e.g., jsmith2).
- Password. This can be composed of letters and/or numbers but cannot include spaces or punctuation marks; there is no length requirement.
New Class Members When you first register for a WebTycho course (or first receive a contract to teach a WebTycho course), a WebTycho account is automatically created for you, usually within 24 hours. Your WebTycho account is permanent for as long as you are actively associated with the University as an enrolled student or faculty member.
User Name and Password Not Received If you have not received your account information via e-mail within 24 hours (it does not happen instantaneously) of your registration being confirmed, it may be because the e-mail address you entered at time of registration is not valid. In this case, use the Log In Wizard (located on WebTycho's log in page) to retrieve your original user name and password. Once you are able to log in, the first thing you should do is open Account Preferences and update your e-mail address.
Logging in the First Time The first time you log in with your original password, you will be immediately presented with the Account Preferences page. Before you may continue you must change your password. This is also a good time to select whether to enable or disable various classroom settings, such as Spell Check and Classroom Awareness, and to verify your e-mail address. You will also be presented with the WebTycho Orientation, for which completion is mandatory.
Timing Out and Authentication Authentication is the process of logging in to one of WebTycho's secure servers using your unique WebTycho user name and password. WebTycho disconnects after 60 minutes of inactivity. More...
Returning Class Members You already have a WebTycho user name and password, no matter how many semesters have passed since you last participated in a WebTycho class. Log in to WebTycho by entering your user name and password into the boxes and clicking Log In on the WebTycho home page. If you have forgotten your user name and password then you may retrieve them with the Log In Wizard available on the WebTycho log in page.
Change My WebTycho User Name Under special circumstances, user names may be changed. More...
Change My WebTycho Password Once you have changed your password it will never automatically expire. You will not receive notice that your password has expired and that you must change it. However, you may choose to change your password periodically as a security measure. See Account Preferences. You will not receive an e-mail notification that your password has been changed; rather you will know that the change is complete when your next attempt to log in is successful.
Change My Polaris or Nova Password
Forgotten Password The Login Wizard on WebTycho's log-in page will help you obtain your WebTycho user name and password if you have not received them or if you have forgotten them. Your password will be reset to the original password that was sent to you via e-mail when you first registered. To use the Wizard, you must have your PIN and student/faculty ID number. You may retrieve your PIN from https://nova.umuc.edu/cgi-bin/isis/pinauth.cgi
You will be prompted to enter your ID number, e-mail address, and date of birth. See also, Security and Privacy.
